Riding: Utilizing maps and schedules posted on the Greensboro Department of Transportation website, determine a place and time to catch the city bus. Ride along atleast one bus route for a minimum of one mile, paying close attention to your surroundings on and off the bus.
This was the assignment given to us in class on Wednesday. My roommate Kara and I decided we would catch the bus to Friendly Shopping center to pick up some groceries. We didn't think it would be too hard to figure out. We pulled up the GTA schedule and found which bus we wanted. However when it came up we had no idea how to read it and which bus stop would be the right bus to take us to Friendly. We knew there was a stop on Aycock St. so we walked up there. We figured we would just ask when it came up where it was headed. This girl walked up waiting for the bus and she told us it would take us to the Depot. We started getting second guesses if we should really do it. We had no idea where the Depot was and how we'd get back home, she informed us then that we could catch bus seven once we arrived. We decided we would go on with our adventure.
Once the bus picked us up we ran into Lily and Jennifer! We were relieved that they had no clue where they were going either. We were talking across from one another and our fellow riders next to us seemed to be annoyed by us. After we got an unfriendly vibe we knew we couldn't ask them if we could take their pictures. So we decided we'd act like we were taking pictures of each other but really aim the camera towards their area. It worked. Perfectly.
We saw a Rosa Parks sign on the front inside of the bus. This reminded me of the reading we were assigned that addressed the Civil Rights Movement and segregation. It's crazy to think people allowed themselves to be so discriminating towards someone, especially because of their skin color.
As we rode the first bus it seemed to give a bitter vibe. Everyone looked so unfriendly and anti-social. I think we may have overwhelmed them because we were so excited to see Lily and Jennifer. Our driver seemed to have a lead foot and the ride was quite rocky. We arrived to the Depot fairly quickly. We all hopped off and hurried to the next bus so we wouldn't miss it. The ceiling was quite architecturally pleasing. It was white metal beams criss crossing one another creating an abundance of triangles. We hopped the next bus and that ride seemed to pick up more people getting off work. We stopped at the Hospital by Friendly and picked up a few receptionists or nurses. There also was quite a few people caught catchin a cat nap on the ride. Like him...
